OrthoMinds
OrthoMinds Photos guides dental professionals through a step-by-step process to take pictures of their patient’s teeth. All pictures are automatically stored in the cloud from the convenience of any mobile phone.
What was the problem?
There was no easy way for an Orthodontist to take a set of 8 progress photos of their patient’s teeth and no way to directly upload the photos to the cloud to be stored in the patient’s chart. Further, previous photo sets had been taken at inconsistent angles, with poor lighting, making time-lapsed comparisons difficult.
What did we do?
Research
We spoke with various orthodontic practitioners and front office staff to understand the challenges they face when taking progress photos.
Brainstorming & Planning
Over the span of 3 weeks, interlaced with brainstorming meetings between WestonDEV and OrthoMinds, a detailed feature list was created.
Wireframing
Our design team created a beautiful wireframe, or mockup, of every screen to be created for the mobile app. This wireframe coupled with the feature list was used to create a specific timeline for the entire lifecycle of the project.
Coding and Testing
Our industry-leading development team took the reins and built out of the mobile application and backend API integration with the existing OrthoMinds database. Several weeks of rigorous quality checking was performed.
User Feedback and Future Planning
A good application is never finished. To this day, we continue to collect feedback from OrthoMinds Photos and use the insight gained to propose new features and systems that can improve the mobile app we developed.
WestonDEV leveraged several cutting edge technologies in image capture, image guiding senciles, and post-capture image manipulation, to create a mobile app that drives efficiency and standardizes the process to capture orthodontic patient progress photos.
Guided Image Process
Dental professionals are provided with step-by-step instructions on how to take all relevant photos of the patient’s teeth. Flash is automatically enabled, and cropping is allowed for all images taken.
Image Stencile
Stencils are shown for every picture type within the composite to assure that all relevant images are taken. Stencils are also superimposed on the camera to guarantee proper sizing and position of the teeth.
Cloud Upload
Seamlessly upload all photos taken to the patient’s cloud based patient record within OrthoMinds. With a poor internet connection? The app stores the images in the cache and tries to upload them again later. Patients can also be sent an email with all images taken.
